The 19th
Less organising. More golfing!
Golf societies and amateur golf groups regularly organise events involving dozens of participants, multiple tee times, competition formats, dress codes, schedules, and score submissions.
While these events are intended to be enjoyable social experiences, organisers often spend significant time coordinating logistics through fragmented tools such as WhatsApp groups, email chains, spreadsheets, and paper scorecards.
The 19th is a digital platform designed to centralise event management, streamline communication, and provide live scoring, allowing organisers to spend less time managing administration and more time enjoying the event itself.
The Problem

Information is scattered
Players receive information through:
-
WhatsApp messages
-
Email threads
-
PDF attachments
-
Screenshots
-
Verbal updates
As a result, participants frequently ask the same questions multiple times.
"What time am I teeing off?"
"Which group am I in?"
"What's the dress code again?"

Organisers become event administrators
Instead of enjoying the day, organisers spend their time:
-
Responding to repetitive questions
-
Chasing scorecards
-
Updating leaderboards manually
-
Communicating schedule changes
Many organisers described feeling more like event managers than participants.

Score collection is inefficient
Traditional scoring methods often involve:
-
Paper scorecards
-
Manual calculations
-
Delayed results
-
Human error
This prevents real-time engagement and creates extra work at the end of the day.
Goals
For Organisers
-
Reduce event administration time
-
Eliminate repetitive communication
-
Automate leaderboard calculation
-
Simplify event setup and sharing
For Participants
-
Access all event details from one link
-
Quickly find tee times and schedules
-
Submit scores easily from mobile devices
-
Follow live leaderboard updates
SOLUTION

Key UX Decisions
One Link Philosophy
Every event is accessible through a single shareable URL.
This removes the need to distribute multiple documents and significantly reduces participant confusion.
No Mandatory Account Creation
Participants can access event information immediately.
This lowers friction and increases adoption among less technical users.
Mobile-First Design
The majority of interactions occur on mobile devices during the event.
The experience was designed primarily for mobile and then scaled to desktop.
Progressive Disclosure
Advanced information is revealed only when relevant, keeping screens uncluttered and easy to scan.

Reflection
This project highlighted an important UX principle:
The biggest opportunity was not adding more features, it was reducing complexity.
By consolidating communication, scoring, and event management into a single experience, Golf Society Hub transforms event organisers from administrators back into participants.
The final solution creates a smoother experience for both organisers and players while preserving the social and competitive aspects that make golf society events enjoyable.
